Walsall threw away a lead in a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town yesterday.

Saddlers took the lead (again) via Jon Macken but some poor defending saw them wave goodbye to all 3 points.

Walsall started well, as Taundry had an effort saved, looking upbeat and punchy.

Macken took the lead on 19 minutes when Claude Gnapka set him up excellently and he chipped the ball into the net from the left. 1-0 and it was game on for Walsall

Saddlers looked sparky throughout the first half but couldn’t convert the chances.

Lancashire headed the ball wide from an excellent Gnapka cross after Macken saw a good shot saved.

Yeovil got back into the game on 43 minutes when the Saddler defence went awol and Gavin Williams took the opportunity to score. He got past Oliver Lancashire and into the net. 1-1 and it the game changed as both teams hunted for the lead.

The second half, however, fell flat for both teams as a winner looked unlikely.

Will Grigg was unlucky not to get on the end of a Walsall counter attack on 49 minutes.

Jon Macken and Darryl Westlake then both had chances cleared pretty easily by the Yeovil defence.

The game ended and they both shared a point.

Walsall’s season is all hope and promise under Dean Smith and there has been mixes results so far but you can’t say too much in August!

Up The Saddlers!
