A Statue Of Sir Ray?

|

Walsall Trust secretary Steve Davies has this morning spoken to Andy Edwards who sculpted the statue of Dave McKay at Derby County for a quote on a potential statue of Sir Ray Graydon outside the Banks’s Stadium – and it isn’t cheap!

Edwards has quoted a statue of Sir Ray would cost around £8,000. Steve is asking for all fans to come up with ideas and suggestions how we can raise that kind of money and finally have a statue of Sir Ray outside the Banks’s Stadium.

If you know of any companies or wealthy individuals that would be willing to contribute to such a project then please contact Steve Davies via his Facebook page or via the Trust on Twitter @walsallfctrust

Ray Graydon nicknamed Sir Ray is seen as our greatest ever manager so much so he has a star on Broad Street walk of fame for his contributions to the club. Sir Ray achieved the unthinkable and guided Walsall FC to Division 1 on a shoestring budget in his first season and managed to finish above the likes of Manchester City, Preston and Wigan.

The following season, the Saddlers were relegated on the final day from Division 1 but Sir Ray promised we would return – he stuck to his word and in the following season we defeated Reading in the play off final.

Sir Ray was sacked the following year with the Saddlers involved again in a relegation battle from Division 1. Some still believe he shouldn’t have been sacked for what he achieved at the club.

Sir Ray will forever be a legend at this club, let’s try and get the funds together and let’s get a statue of him at our home!
