A third gone, only 31 games to go!

It was a good result on Saturday due to the tricky nature of the fixture. An away game at Accrington Stanley when you are top of the league always has that expectancy of a unexpected home win. However, as the old Walsall would`ve done under ‘Sir Ray,` they put their battle armour on (instead of their ballet pumps from last season) and blew away a strong Stanley side, but only just. It is the kind of result that sets your sights on promotion, a word that should not be feared now, but it should not be used to draw complacent conclusions. Lincoln City are on fire!!! 5-0 last week, 7-0 this week, 10-0 next week? They just can`t stop scoring and low-and-behold ex-Saddler Jamie Forrester is the top scorer with 11 goals because of it.

Michael Ricketts to Walsall? Maybe. Who knows? But here is the real question, do we need another striker? Martin Butler, Hector Sam, James Constable, Alex Nicholls, Tony Bedeau; so to answer my own question, yes. Hector Sam has started to score goals, but there is need for extra competition because Sam is not up to the standard we need. Constable is still not there, but will be in the future and Nicholls will probably go to Leigh RMI and score 100 goals, in three matches, because he is talented. We shall see in the coming days what happens, but I suspect nothing will happen. He has had injuries and may not be the right choice. But just imagine, Ricketts coming on and re-discovering his form to gift Walsall the title. It`s a dream, and there`s nothing wrong with that.

Finally, Anthony Gerrard is a defender and not a midfielder. We have had this problem with Craig Pead (probably still is a problem) so let`s resolve it now. If there are no midfielders, then fine, but with Kinsella, Dobson, Keates, and even Wrack, there is no need for Gerrard to copy his cousin`s antics. It would be nice if he could though.
