Barnsley v Walsall Will Go Ahead Despite Serious Incident This Morning

Barnsley Football Club have this afternoon released a statement stating that today’s League 1 game between Barnsley and the Saddlers will go ahead despite what happened in Barnsley town centre this morning.

The police described this morning’s events in Barnsley town centre as a serious incident and there is still a police presence in and around the town centre.

The statement on the official site reads –

The game will go ahead as scheduled.

“There will be an increased police presence at Oakwell this afternoon ahead of, during and after the Sky Bet League One match with Walsall FC.

The club has been in constant communication with South Yorkshire Police and we would like to thank them for their updates.

Supporters of both Barnsley FC and Walsall FC are asked to remain vigilant and report anything they deem suspicious.

We look forward to welcoming everyone connected to both clubs.”

We at Vital Walsall are led to believe that South Yorkshire Police are still investigating today’s alleged stabbing in Barnsley town centre which lead to an arrest and one man taken to hospital.

The stabbing took place at 8am this morning with a male sustaining minor injuries.

Football must always take a back seat when things like this happen but with the game given the go ahead – let’s go and take all three points home!
