Bescot Beat: Good, the bad and no discipline

It really has been a week of cup exits and dramatic comebacks, with Clayton Ince’s clanger really proving that the damn right bizarre still exists at WS1.

As soon as Dougie Freedman put Southend 2-1 to the good, you would’ve been forgiven for thinking that it’s another lead lost – another defeat.

Two words….Sam Parkin. He has impressed fans and the press alike with his typical striker’s workrate and presence, something which has arguably been missing since the departure of players like Don Goodman and Jorge Leitao.

He will be a big player for us in the coming months, scoring a vital goal to spare Ince’s blushes. Although we must get the rest of the team sorted out – how about look in the youth team?

Westlake proves that there are more hidden gems in the academy ranks that could potentially mean a good player will blossom and take the lower leagues by storm.

OK maybe a little optimistic, he’s only played one match, but with Rhys Weston showing his hot-headed side in the early games, he will be a very welcome member of the squad.

Having seen Ince’s mare over and over and over again, I can’t help but have a little titter to myself while at the same time wanting to scream uncontrolably at the TV screen. About 3,000 Saddlers fans probably wanted to do the same on Saturday.

Surprisingly, Hutch has come out after the match and refused to support Ince, declaring he was unhappy with the gaffe and he is considering throwing in Gilmartin for the Leeds game on Tuesday. Maybe a bold move, but in such a big game, who knows?

Another thing, the mighty-yet-supposedly-dirty Leeds visit the Bescot on Tuesday, with the Saddlers hoping to relive the 1-0 win of last season – a similar result would be incredible! However, with the way Leeds are performing, a point would also be an excellent result, maybe a narrow loss aswell!

And finally this week, I would like to declare I hate cup exits as a Saddlers fan, especially when they are in the first round and against lower opposition. Not to sound like a snob, but we should be beating them and we were, but silly mistakes that will cost us a top-six finish really did cost us a cup run. We must make the most of the JPT in the near future!

Oh, and I am still boycotting milk in protest!
