Former Notts Forest defender Ian Breckin has turned down the chance to re-unite himself witb his former manager after stating he wants to stay in the ‘north.’
The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer after his release from Forest at the end of last season and is currently in negotiations with a club nearer his home, rumoured to be Rotherham.
He told the Express and Star: “I spoke to Chris Hutchings about a move. He offered me a decent contract, but I wanted to be closer to home.
“If Walsall had even been a half hour from my house I would have joined them. It was just too far away.”
It’s another blow to Hutch, who is looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the start to pre-season training.
CH has already spoken at the difficulty at attracting players to WS1, especially with a small budget.
It would seem one-year-deals will not be enough to attract players to move to the Bescot.
