Bristol Rovers Defender Rejects New Deal To Join Darrell Clarke’s Revolution At Walsall

|

Walsall have today completed the signing of Bristol Rovers defender James Clarke after the defender rejected a new deal with the Gas.

Clarke featured forty-nine times in all competitions for the Gas last season scoring two goals.

He was shortlisted for player of the season after a strong campaign which saw him play left back, right back and centre back in a defence which finished the season with the fifth best record in League One.

He was voted fans player of the season on The Gascast Podcast where he was described as one of the few shining lights in a poor season. Interestingly despite being known as a centre-back he was described as playing most of the season at right-back – a position he played in against us.

Clarke who can play anywhere across the back four has played over one hundred and twenty-two games for the Gas since moving from Woking in 2015. He was instrumental in the side which won promotion from League 2 in 2016 and has featured heavily in their League 1 campaign despite suffering injury.

James Clarke also played for Darrell Clarke at Salisbury where he won promotion twice in two years from the Conference South and Conference Premier.

Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan told Bristol Live earlier this week that he would be disappointed if James Clarke decided his future lies elsewhere

“I’d be pretty disappointed if James Clarke and Deon Moore decided their futures were elsewhere.”

James will join the club on July 1st.

Everyone at Vital Walsall welcomes James Clarke to the club.
