Cheap as chips

Butler was instrumental last season in our Championship winning season, giving all for the Saddlers and now and again chipping in with a couple of goals. Though the returning striker was less than profilic, he was a calming influence with his experience and had a tremoudous work rate which sadly was mostly outside the penalty area. Butler could have been sold for six figures to Peterborough at the end of August, but the move fell apart due to failed personal terms with the player. That decision’s now back fired for the club and Butler, as Walsall missed out on a good transfer fee and the personal terms then rejected are likely to be much higher than those accepted from Grimsby.

I would like to thank him for all his efforts last season, and pay tribute to his character for returning to a club where he was practical ridiculed during his first spell and turning those fans around. But the striker’s departure will free up wage money for Richard Money who scopes the market for players who will bring fresh impetus and quality to the Saddlers in their return season to the third flight of football.
