We have been talking all week about the keeper on trial from Coventry City, well he has put pen to paper and signed up.

Having gained over 60 caps for Trinadad and Tobago, over 100 games for Crewe he played last season with Coventry City, although failing to command a first team spot. In the close season Coventry swooped for Millwall keeper Andy Marshall making Clayton surplus to requirements at the Ricoh Stadium. Agreement was made that he could leave on a free transfer if a suitable club came in. This is where Richard Money stepped in.

Having spent the summer in Germany as third choice keeper behind Shakka Hislop and Kelvin Jack he will be fit and ready to go. Richard Money has express his delight at the signing and hopes his 6ft 3 height will help give the team an increased physical presence, whilst at 33years old his vast experience will not only help the defence but must surely help the development of Irish under 21 Keeper Rene Gilmartin who will be number two in the Bescot set up, unless the rumoured second experienced keeper actually signs.

Clayton is expected to make his Walsall bow at Halesowen this week before making his Bescot bow at the weekend.

Further transfer developments are expected.
