Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has given an interview to discuss the latest update on Danny Johnson – admitting only one club has met the valuation for Johnson however the striker didn’t want to join them.

He also admitted that Danny does not want to commit to any club past this season so would only be a short term deal with Walsall if he was to join.

Clough said

“As far as we are concerned no deal has been agreed with Danny, so he is in contention for Saturday”

“We have had 5/6 enquiries and a couple of bids. One bid was accepted but Danny didn’t want to go, the second bid (Walsall yesterday), did not meet our valuation”

“We have the three club rule to contend with also. If he was to play for us on Saturday then it restricts what we can do Potentially hold him back this Saturday and not reduce our options. One game wont change, we still have nineteen to play”

“Danny only wants to commit to end of season. He doesn’t want to sign a long term deal so if he was to go to Walsall it would be until end of season anyway”

“Danny hasn’t said he wants to leave at the moment. If that was to change then of course we would have to re-evaluate it”

Clough also confirmed Danny Johnson will take part in a behind closed doors friendly for Mansfield against Barnsley this afternoon.
