Fantastic support for The Saddlers at Meadow Lane from Walsall fans in thier droves…and that was about the best thing about this away day, I’m afraid.

Walsall’s start was poor, and within two minutes County hit the post.

Just to make a bad start worse, within ten minutes Andy Butler got himself a booking for a foul and Claude Gnakpa went off for Alex Nicholls through iniury.

County pretty much dominated the first half coming close more than once, until the 38th minute, when much talked about County striker Lee Highes controlled the ball on his chest turned and fired home from 16 yards to make it 1-0.

Walsall had little luck with the attack, they had little joy and created only a couple of chances at best.

Half-time 1-0

Whatever it was that Deano said to the lads during the break, it certainly worked for a while at least.

The Saddlers came out looking a lot brighter and Jon Macken stung the fingers of the County keeper, who palmed his low drive away.

Walsall gave our already vocal support a huge lift in the 61st minute, captain fantastic Andy Butler did well to head in an equaliser from Richard Taundry’s sublime free kick. 1-1

Now we all know three minutes isnt a long time in football, but most of our fans hadn`t stopped celebrating when County put them back in front! Westlake was easily muscled off the ball by County man Cristian Montano, who latched on to a through ball to slot home from 12 yards. 2-1.

Our fans looked like they wished they hadn’t bothered turning back round from the celebration!

The game dribbled on with nothing much doing for either side until a weak header from Saddlers centre-back Manny Smith was cleared off the line.

Former Walsall man Karl Hawley almost connected with a deep cross, which would have put the result beyond any doubt, before Jon Macken blazed over Walsall`s final chance of the game deep into stoppage time.
