Everything is all Wright for walsall

I don’t know if it was the contribution from Tommy Wright on his debut, or the lack of complacency since we knew County would give us a stern test but at last we should a shade of the form of earlier in the season.

Tommy Wright who County fans wanted dismissed for a second foul on the away keeper, rubbed salt in the wounds when he thumped home a minute later following good work by the returning Kinsella. It was this goal which really settled the match since County were looking good going forward. Forcing Clayton Ince into a couple of excellent saves including one from a Dann diving header. As we started to press Kinsella hit the post Butler who started to get chances for the first time in weeks showed a bit of rusty finishing by missing a couple of clear chances. Dean Keates however pulled closer to Butler in the goalscoring stakes as his free kick sailed straight in as Roper stretched but missed trying to nod home.

The second half we were in more control than the first although County pressed hard the defence were fantastic Dann and Roper coped with the threat of Jason Lee elbows and all. Whilst Westwood put in one of his best games this season as he kept the dangerous Parkinson in his pocket.

We missed chances in the second half, then County became the first team to score a league goal at Bescot. Ross sent a free kick in which Ince seemed to have covered but it was allowed to squirm under his body. A shame for Ince who had hardly put a foot wrong. The way the team reacted was as if we had lost the cup final in the last minute. This gave County hope that they might snatch an undeserved point, but Walsall remained strong and ended the game taking the game to County.

Plus points, must a great debut by Tommy Wright giving the attack the edge we have missed. This seemed to bring Butler back to life. Westwood looked like a good fullback against a proven wide man in Parkinson. In fact the defence full stop and Kinsella in midfield were all strong.

We now go into a ten day break, DD speaking after the game hopes injury victims Fox and Wrack will be fit for the Bury game. We also have the promise of the announcement of a new striker who will be able to play in January. Inbetween we will just have to be happy 7 points clear at the top, 9points clear of the play offs, 14 points clear of 8th place. The promise of a Merry Xmas and a happy new year.
