Walsall head coach Michael Flynn said he was proud of defender Liam Gordon for returning to action this evening admitting he was fearful of his life at one stage.

Gordon who signed on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers this summer was injured in a “freak accident” on the training ground in July which required an immediate operation.

Following tonight’s 2-1 Papa Johns defeat to Cheltenham, Flynn said

“Big positive for me tonight was Liam. He’s had a tough time. He’s collapsed, where at one point I was starting to worry for his life. Never mind anything else”

“Then we were fearful his career was going to be over – he might have lost his foot. There have been some serious moments but we’ve kept that quiet because we wanted to take the pressure away from Liam.”

“He’s still got a lot to do fitness wise but I’m proud of him”

Full respect to Liam and it’s great to see you back out there. Minor setbacks, major comebacks!
