Ten games ago the Saddlers had won their opening three games without conceding a goal – scoring seven in the process. Now we find ourselves out of one cup competition, practically out of a second one and in the lower half of League 2.
However there are a couple of reasons why our glasses should be half full, rather than half empty.
Yes we have lost seven of our last ten games however it doesn’t tell the whole story. It all started with a 99th minute equalizer by Stevenage. we lost against Charlton when we had a perfect goal disallowed, we lost against Grimsby after calamitous defending within a ten minute period, we lost at Bradford having twenty-four shots on goal and then we were denied two stonewall penalties tonight at Cheltenham.
Throw into the mix we currently have the following players currently out injured (Przybek, McEntee, Gordon, Labadie, Riley, Wilkinson) most of which would probably walk into most League 2 sides. We are simply not having the rub of the green at the moment.
The chopping and changing of formations isn’t helping however when you are suffering so many injuries and results are obviously not coming, then you find yourself just trying to get through a rough patch. It all adds up to a dismal run. One thing you can see through all this is we are trying to nullify the opposition to very few chances, whether it works when everyone returns remains to be seen but at least we have an identity – more than we had under Matty Taylor and Brian Dutton.
Its a really tough period but difference is most still believe in Flynn. I mean who else could we attract that has his credentials? We are confident he will turn it around. We just need our bit of luck and then that glass will soon become half full rather than half empty.
