Former Walsall academy goalkeeping coach, Bernard Day sadly passed away earlier this month following a short illness.

Family, friends, colleagues and former pupils are expected to turn out for the popular coach’s funeral at Sutton Coldfield Crematorium later today (Friday).

The well-known figure was a committee member of the Birmingham Primary Schools Football Association and was a sports coach at Highclare School.

Having played football professionally, Bernard went on to work with the goalkeeping academies at West Bromwich Albion and Walsall as well as working with Aston Villa and Manchester City, before opening up his own goalkeeping coaching school.

Bernard leaves behind Jane, his three children – Gemma, William and George – and stepson Jordan.

Everyone at Vital Walsall sends our condolences to Mr Day’s family at this sad time.
