The story which we all knew was coming, but we didn’t want to believe has been confirmed this morning that leading goalscorer Will Grigg has today signed for League 1 rivals Brentford on a 3-year deal.
Grigg became the first Walsall player in a decade to reach twenty goals last term and Walsall have confirmed this morning that they offered him a ‘lucrative 4 year deal’ to stay at The Banks’s which he declined.
The Northern Ireland international owes a lot to Walsall given the fact that until last season he struggled to reach double figures in a season. Loyalty in football? Pfft!
This is a major blow to everything Dean Smith is trying to achieve at Walsall and it remains whether to be seen if we can replace Grigg with only a month to go until the first game.
Both clubs will now try to discuss a severity package but will most likely go to a tribunal given that both club valuations are miles apart!
