How cute’s Jeff

A lot has been written about Jeff Bonsers business methods, namely he won’t spend what he hasn’t got. Also he sets a budget and keeps to it.

So it makes me ask the question, did Jeff see the writing on the wall. Having stated the financial loss the club was making since the demise of ITV Digital and the loss of Championship status. Jeff Bonser gained a cash injection with the sale of Matty Fryatt and Julian Bennett, he also authorised the release of our other striker and high wage earner Jorge Letio. We may never know how much was driven by Jeff or how much was caused by him believing what Paul Merson told him.

So why was the gap filled with loan players and cheap options such as Andrew Barrowman, a bit of panic buying ia a possible answer. But I suggest that Jeff Bonser knew the impact on the team, and like the rest of us knew that if the cheap option didn’t come off we would struggle…not rocket science that bit.

So with that background I would sugest that more than the usual consideration was given to the type of player comming into Bescot. Loan players no signing on fee, but more importantly from a financial angle no commitment, if we went down no high earners to pay off, no financial burden. Quiet sensible from a business sense, but it has left us bankrupt on the pitch.

Deep down I also wonder if Bonser was also using Merson. Many people including myself accused Jeff of been star struck with the aura of Paul Merson. The other side of the coin is he was using Merse as a scape goat for Jeff’s cost cutting. Merse was going to be the lamb to the slaughter at the end of the season. It must be remembered Jeff didn’t get rid of Merson the fans twisted his arm until he was left with no option.

So once again Jeff has possible toyed with our emotions and our club, in attempt to balance the books. You can argue that with out such measures we might have been in the same position as Rotherham. But on the pitch we are at the moment the poor relation.

So what of next season, well the budget will be cut according to the cloth provided by League two football as it seems relegation is on the cards. We will have no high earners to pay off. So the manager will have a free hand to work within the constraits given. Nothing has changed there. However this does mean that we will have a team of youngsters even more so than this year. In his programme notes Jeff stated his desire of a Walsall team filled by young Walsall lads well he may have just made his wish come true.

One relegation is unfortunate two is down right careless.

Jeff it’s time to come clean on the situation and the dealings behind the scene. I ask you to respond, you have two home matches to use the programme notes as your forum.
