Walsall Football Club have tonight confirmed that Jon Whitney has been sacked as manager with immediate effect.

His sacking comes days after our 2-0 Derby defeat against Shrewsbury Town where a banner was on show calling for the sacking of Jon Whitney.

Whitney ends his 15 year spell with the club, Ian Sharps and John Ward have been put in temporary charge.

Whitney has been on a hiding to nothing over the past eighteen months with the drab football and ridiculous press statements and many expected him to depart at the end of the season.

Whitney was in charge for 108 games, winning 38, drawing 29 and losing 41.

We would like to thank Whitney for his service to the club, but this was just one step too far.
