So the Posh official site has announced the departure of Westy and Keates, the BBC and SKY sports have picked up on this release and published it as fact.

So far it all seems clear, then the local Express and Dingle state that they have spoken to players and agents and no contracts have been signed.

So have they gone or haven’t they, well nobody really seems to know. Perhaps the most telling factor is that both players have vanished off the squad listings. However there does seem to be some underhand agent workings going on here and some spin which would make Tony Blair proud.

The fact is they can’t sign for anyone until there current contract has expired they could sign a pre contract agreement though. However until the deal is finalised anything could happen.

If they do go it isn’t the end of the world, Westy perhaps the most improved player after a truely dreadful year in league one, was not going to be first choice in his favoured position at centre half. At full back whilst many fans will rightly commend his performances, at league one his postion would have been under threat. So you can understand why the club wouldn’t have offered the 30 year old a three year contract. He would have been welcome to stay asa squad player, but in truth that may not have suited either party.

As for Keates, player of the season scorer of some great goals and top scorer with 13 goals. Again most Saddlers would have been happy for him to stay, but equally many would want the addition of an attacking midfield player, leaving his place under threat, Deano and Keates never looked the best central midfield partnership. Bearing this in mind you can again understand the club having a stance where a 3year deal would not make financial or footballing sense.

So what do I make of todays events well I would say both players will be leaving, but perhaps The Posh might not be the final destination….but then again it might be.
