Former Reading, Hereford and Coventry striker Mathieu Manset is still very much on the radar for Walsall boss Dean Smith despite the striker heading back to France.

Smith confirmed that Mansets representatives were causing the hold up with the deal but insists talks are ongoing.

Manset scored against Leicester City and set up Ashley Grimes for the second and Smith says he is excited by the prospect of Manset who is still not 100% fit.

Speaking to the Express and Star, Smith said “We are talking and it`s with a view to a deal, obviously when you are dealing with agents it gets a little bit trickier,” revealed Smith.

“That is where we are at. He was at Royal Antwerp last season but he is based in France, he has a fiancĂ©e and a baby over there.

‘We would like him to come here, we are negotiating with his people.”

“I don`t think he is anywhere near fit at the moment but that excites me even more because, if we get him a little bit fitter, there could be a really good player there.
