Tomorrow, we go to Colchester hoping to be the second side to take 3 points off the U`s at home. They have only won twice at home this season but they have only failed to score once against visiting teams and, given our less than water-tight defensive situation, it doesn`t exactly bode well for our half of the score-board. All 4 of the strikers in their side have scored this season and that enviable depth up front is only exacerbated by the presence of Anthony Wordsworth in the midfield. With 5 goals in 9 games this season, the young man has worked his way up through the youth teams and reserves and, in the last few years, has gone on to make himself one of the first names on the United team sheet. He is the man we have to keep quiet as he is the heart-beat of their midfield and a hugely formidable threat in front of goal.
After twice giving away a winning position on Saturday, a lot of Walsall fans are beginning to air their frustration with the side and I`m sure the lads aren`t exactly enjoying the current run either. The worst thing about football is the small section of fickle fans that inhabit every professional club and we can`t expect our lads to bat above their average in every single game. The reality is that we are not good enough to mount a sustainable promotion push and, before the game, most of us would have taken a score-draw against a strong Scunthorpe side. It is very disappointing to lose the lead in the dying seconds after such a wonderful strike from Will Grigg but we did not deserve to beat Scunny and it is a testament to the lads that we were not blown out of the water long before we took the lead in the first place. We will have to put in a very disciplined performance against free-scoring Colchester and it wouldn`t surprise me if they did find the back of the net tomorrow. On the plus, The U`s are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and I can see this game being compared to an epic game that took place on Monday night. My team, Dyslexia Untied, took on, league champions, Krotch Goblins in an encounter that you had to see to believe. The game ended with a 3-minute, 5-goal salvo seeing the mighty Dyslexia claw back from 10-5 down to secure a heroic 10-all draw. Given the way Walsall and Colchester have been defending this season, I would not be surprised to see them put on a game that would put my 5-a-side excursions to shame; failing that it`ll be a boring, 1-1 draw with that monster of a man; Kayode Odejayi, scoring a 48-yard header in injury time.
Although I remain hopeful, I do not expect to beat the U`s tomorrow. They score a lot of goals and, although they are by no means solid at the back, I expect them to out-score us by a considerable margin. Man-for-man I don`t think we are that far off Colchester but their strength up front and excellent midfield should see them earn at least a point at home. Wordsworth really does worry me so, if he plays, I can foresee me cursing the ground he walks on come this time tomorrow. We are in a bad run of form but at least from here the only way is Essex???sorry. Couldn`t resist.
