Clayton McDonald has signed an 18-month deal to seal his return to th Saddlers and will go straight into the squad to face Charlton this weekend.

The 21-year-old, who is the son of former Saddlers star Rod McDonald, signed on a permanent basis on Tuesday and said he was delighted to be back after spending three months on-loan at the club earlier in the season.

He told saddlers.co.uk: ‘I’m really excited and looking forward to what the next 18 months hold in store.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed my loan spell here and see it as the perfect place to push on my career.

‘I had a great grounding at Manchester City but unfortunately it didn’t happen for me at first-team level. That’s in the past now, though, and I just want to concentrate all of my efforts on Walsall.

‘I really can’t wait to kick-on and challenge for my place in the team here.’
