Walsall defender James O’Connor said last night was a matter of winning rather than the performance.

O’Connor also netted the Saddlers first goal and also his first goal in a Saddlers shirt.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk; O’Connor said ‘It was a nice bonus to score, but we needed that win, no matter how it came,’ he said. ‘Our home form has not been great recently and we have felt that we have missed some opportunities, so to get the three points on Tuesday was the main thing.’

O’Connor discussed the League 1 table and admitted its anyone’s for the taking.

‘This League is crazy,’ said O’Connor

‘Virtually any team could win three or four games and be right up there in the play-off places.’

O’Connor has been deputising for the injured James Chambers, however given our last two results it will be hard for James to reclaim his spot in the starting XI.
