Walsall’s relegation worries were deepened last night in a clash with a struggling Oldham at Boundary Park.

Oldham were in the lead within three minutes through Felipe Morais, as the Saddler’s game plan hit sixes and sevens.

Both teams struggled to gain total control of the game, with Walsall causing no real threat except for a a Flo Cuvelier drive which rattled the Oldham post, and on the half hour mark Robbie Simpson made it two for the home side.

The second half began with Olly Lancashire being bought on in place of Manny Smith, who appeared to be carrying a knock.

Still neither team could take major control of the game but with Oldham looking the bigger threat.

In the 65th minute Richard Taundry and Ryan Jarvis were replaced by Will Grigg and George Bowerman, in a clear attacking manoeuvre from boss Dean Smith.

The attacking change appeared to bear some fruit as young loanee pulled one back for Walsall, ten minutes later.

As Walsall made one final push for an equaliser, it appeared as if it had worked as Jean Yves Mvoto brought down Will Grigg for a spot kick.

Alex Nicholls had the heartbreak of seeing his penalty saved by Oldham keeper Alex Cisak.

Another potentially winnable game passes us by making that relegation battle seem that little bit harder, more so with the fact that Relegation rivals Scunthorpe picked up a win.

This makes Saturdays home tie with Wycombe Wanderers absolutely vital as we re currently sitting three points from safety and only one point off relegation.
