Potential cash boost as football set for comeback

The football is due to return to the Bank’s on New Year’s Day after 3 weeks of postponements, as well as a likely cash windfall as Matt Fryatt is set to exit Leicester City Football Club.

Fryatt was a key member of the Saddlers team in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons, picking up the goal and player of the season awards in 2005. After Walsall decided not to reject an offer from Leicester City in 2006, he was sold with a clause that the Saddlers would get further compensation if he moved away from the Walkers Stadium.

Fryatt has now fallen out of favour at the Walkers Stadium under Sven Goran Eriksson and, as Hull City are preparing a 1.5 million swoop for him, a cash bonus would give Saddlers options as the transfer window opens for the new year.

The Saddlers have been without a game since the triumphant December 12 victory at Charlton Athletic. Home games against Oldham and Southampton and an away match at Bristol Rovers were all called off as Britain was gripped by freezing temperatures and snow. Buoyed by milder temperatures and rain, the pitch at the Banks’s is in a much better state and the New Year’s Day clash with Notts County looks set to go ahead.

After a slow and frustrating footballing December, there is finally some WFC action. All fingers crossed for the match to go ahead and see you at the Banks’s for a crisp,if not fuzzy headed, New Year’s football day!
