When the ground was located closer to the town centre places such as Hogans Bar, The Speed well and the individual ‘Quaker Coffee House’ were all regular haunts. Cheap beer in general friendly drinking companions albeit some town centre drunks to avoid.

However things have changed due to the building of the best stadia in league Two a ground that deserves a higher level of football. Like most modern grounds there is a concourse which will provide pre match alcohol, in this case Smiths or Fosters. Most local fans seem to recomend the Stadium Bar 66 which has the benefit of a large screen which will more than likly be showing the Liverpool Man Utd game. There is another bar associated with the ground called the corner bar.

A little further away one site recommends ‘There is the Copper Beech Pub on Neasham Road, a ten minute walk towards the town centre. Otherwise there is the Tawny Owl Pub, a Vintage Inn which is about a quarter of a mile the other side of the A66 roundabout. This though is more of a restaurant than pub, but decent enough for lunch’.

A side issue for those traveling by car I am told street parking can be difficult and beware permit holders only sections. Also some local youngsters do run a ‘look after your car for you mate’ scheme …beware. However there is a secure car park which costs £5, however there can be delays getting out.
