WALSALL 1-3 SOUTHAMPTON (League One)

The Super Saddlers lost their way after being undone by ex-Wolves striker David Connolly.

The 32-year-old netted after 32 minutes, just seconds after Byfield hit the post at the other end for Hutch’s side.

Connolly then set up Dean Hammond six minutes later to make it 2-0 to the Saints, leaving the Saddlers with a lot to do.

In the second half, Connolly was involved int he play yet again, this time setting up fellow striker Rickie Lambert on 65 minutes to give Southampton a 3-0 lead.

Darren Byfield managed to score a consolation, netting his 100th career goal on 66 minutes.

Despite huffing and puffing, the Saddlers were unable to get back into the game, as we suffered our first defeat for over a month.
