Today is the big day as Walsall take on Southampton at St Marys in the final season showdown to escape relegation.

The Banks’s was abuzz yesterday when the players had their last word on preparation and their last training session of the campaign.

‘It`s a nervous game but I`m a positive kind of guy and I am going to go with the positives and look for a win.’ Julian Gray told the Express and Star.

“All we`re thinking about is the win, being in a positive mood, having a positive attitude and being relaxed enough to go out and put on a performance.” Jon Macken added.

The Saddlers have no new injury concerns as Clayton McDonald and Aaron Lescott remain sidelined with respective shoulder and knee injuries.

The Saints are already promoted and it will be hopefully a double celebration if the Daggers don’t beat Walsall’s score at Peterborough. The Posh are in the playoff hunt so are unlikely to give Dagenham much leeway.

‘It’s the only way to go; we’ve got a job to do and we will go there determined to bring home the points that we need.’ Richards contributed to the main site.

‘I expect everyone to fancy Southampton to win, but we are determined to put on a show. We put smiles on people’s faces last weekend and hopefully we will do the same today.’ Manager Dean Smith concluded.

Everyone will remember that cold early  March Tuesday night at the Banks’s when Jon Macken fired the Saddlers to a momentous home victory, kickstarting the real assault on the great escape of relegation.

The team for today is likely to be the same as the previous two games; Walker, Williams, Butler, Lancashire, Taundry, Richards, Gray, Laird, Cook, Macken, Grigg.

The match is two hours away, it’s exciting but very nervous!

Up The Saddlers!
