Walsall boss Dean Smith was left angry and annoyed by Andy D’Urso failure to award Walsall a penalty when striker Jordy Hiwula was pulled down in the penalty box when the score was 0-0 – Port Vale went on to win the game 1-0.

This wasn’t just the only decision that the officials got wrong with more penalty shouts for handball and the lead up to Port Vale’s goal saw Tom Pope man handle Andy Taylor to the floor.

Smith said: “The whole game hinges on that decision and it is a stonewall penalty and a red card. Game over.’

“Unfortunately the decision wasn`t given. It looked a foul for their goal as well. He has climbed all over Andy Taylor and headed the ball in.’

“We did not get the decision but we have not had a penalty at home all season so why expect anything different.”

He went on: “I have seen the replay. I don`t care what the referee`s position was. Everyone else in the ground thought it was a penalty, including their bench.’

“Whatever his position surely there are four officials on there who can give it if everyone else can see it. That I`m afraid is what happens.’

“I`m not going to bother speaking to the referee.Nothing will change. Hopefully in his next game he does a bit better.’

The FA need to start looking into the standard of refereeing in all leagues as the standard has dropped to abysmal.
