Stadium Falling Apart And So Is The Team

So the Saddlers did what we do best, follow up a fantastic performance and result against Southend last weekend with an atrocious, pathetic and abject performance and result against bottom of the league Rochdale.

If you wasn’t there last night you didn’t miss much, it was one of the worst performances by a Walsall side for many a year – it had the feeling of a Hutchings style performance, and some of them wasn’t that bad!

Whitney kept the same side which beat Southend a few days earlier but from the get go it was the side rooted to the bottom of the table who showed quality and passion – passion is something Jon prides himself on, this was nothing like.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Rochdale took the lead. A corner found McNulty near the back post and he rose above the flat footed Walsall defence and looped his header over Liam Roberts.

You expected the Saddlers to come out second half with a purpose but it never came as goals from Henderson and Dobre wrapped up an easy win for the visitors.

Oztumer had a penalty saved with the game at 2-0 but even if we had scored that you would imagine it wouldn’t have ignited anything from a lacklustre Walsall side.

It was a night to forget and another eye opener to the powers that be that this cannot continue.

The match ended to a loud chorus of boos from the 3,400 home fans and loud chants of ‘we want Whitney out’, we now face Shrewsbury (2nd) and Wigan (3rd) – two defeats and the Saddlers will be back amongst the relegation scrap.

The club confirmed last night that the stadium had been hit by flooding earlier this week which meant some toilets weren’t available, a turnstile wasn’t working properly and apparently the programme shop door fell off – if there was any sign that things are falling apart at Walsall then the stadium echoed this statement just as much as the dross on the pitch.
