Hector Sam, you are a legend! I am so happy for him after he scored his first in a red shirt against lowly Macclesfield at the weekend. It should have been an easy three points, but the reality was that we just got lucky. And that`s fine. Results, results, results. It is all that matters. As long was we win most of our games, Swindon will find it difficult to catch us; on the evidence of their shock home defeat to the Posh, who we beat 5-0 remember. Other teams to look out for include (as I said in a previous column) Lincoln, Wycombe, and?erm?MK Dons. OK, I didn`t say they would be up there, but they are. Mind you, with Martin Allen in charge, they were always going to surprise people.

Secondly, I would like to raise a new issue within the Walsall squad. It`s all about that 19 year-old defender who scores goals. Could he be a natural striker, or am I barking up the wrong tree, or am I in the wrong forest? All I can say is that he has scored one more goal than legend Hector Sam and that he is superb in the air. ‘Dickie Dosh` needs to get that idea of signing Carl Asaba, he is complete rubbish. He is a has been, he is 33 years-old for heavens sake. Go with youth, ‘Buts` is the experience in the squad at 31, so give Dann a chance to shine as the new ‘Fryatt.` If you cast your minds back to Leicester City being regulars in the top division (sorry Foxes fans), you may remember a defender called Matty Elliott. He was a brilliant player, who was naturally a centre-back, but could play as a striker and scored goals; in the Premiership! There has not been a player like this in present day football, so could Scott Dann be the man to become this type of player in the modern game? Maybe, we shall see. All in good time.

Finally, this week has seen the build up for two big games for Walsall to prove themselves. They have played Premiership side Bolton and lost 3-1 in the Carling Cup Second Round, pushing them all the way till the last two minutes. But now we await a tough trip to Bristol Rovers. They may be 17th with nine points, but so were Barnet. It is another banana skin, this time it`s the size of Wales. We must tread carefully and prove that we are the strongest side in League Two, while gaining our second league win away from Bescot.
