And all through the house, not a Walsall player was stirring, because they have no more games this year!

It has been a slog of a year for the Saddlers, and an even longer one for the supporters.

Three managers, a new coaching team, and a lot of players later, the year finally ends.

New Year New Walsall?

2022 feels like it could be a new leaf for the Saddlers, who have started to turn a corner in League Two for the first time since relegation.

Matt Taylor has brought about a better feel to the club, a togetherness and a spirit that has started to mend the bridges between club and fans,

It was a tough task, but in a short space of time, he has managed to impress, as has the team, although there is still work to be done.

The play-off’s are a tough ask, but some sort of growth and improvement in the league would be enough for the fans, who just want to be able to go to a game and feel entertained.

Work to be done

Currently sat in 12th with a mixture of games in hand, or games advantage over teams, Walsall have a platform to grow from.

The side needs some improving in January with a lack of depth up top, and in certain defensive areas, but overall, the team is not bad.

It is also young, which bodes well for a coach like Taylor who can improve players and drill them too.

He has work to do like every manager, the question is, can he and the side get a bit more consistency in the second half of the season.

January ticks closer

Fans from every club are waiting for the January transfer window to open, the Saddlers are no different.

First and foremost, there is business to do regarding Otis Khan, and getting him signed should be high on the priority list.

Elsewhere, there are players who need game time, and should be sent out on loan, which would free up some wages for incoming players.

Apart from Khan, two additions would be what is needed to give the Saddlers a chance to push up the table, and begin building for a serious promotion push next season.
