This weeks has been dominated by the government cutting free meals for kids who need them. However, in these tough times, there is a place that are going the extra mile to do their bit to help out.

The Davy Bakehouse are based on King’s Street in Darlaston. They have been providing free meals for school children to try and support the community that they are based in. Soraya Davy of the bake house was proud of the increase in lunches they have been able to provide thanks to the generosity of their customers:

We originally started off being able to provide 12 lunches a day but due to overwhelming donations we’ve managed to now supply 100 packed lunches to children in families who might find themselves in a situation where they can’t afford any extra food to feed their kids.

The message from the Bakehouse to those who may have been affected by the governments lack of support is a simple one:

So all throughout this half term, we’re saying to those families come down, please take a packed lunch for your children and don’t let them go hungry because no kids should go hungry

So if you live, or work in the Darlaston area, then help The Davy Bakehouse by going in, donating, or by choosing to have your lunch their instead. I think the work they do is fantastic, and is sure to help people out in what is hard times.

A huge thanks to Soraya, Maddison, Sarah, Stacey, and the rest of the team at the Bakehouse, and well done for all your work so far!
