Walsall join Elding chase

As Crewe failed to impress Leeds striker Anthony Elding, the field has been blown wide open to sign the unwanted Leeds man. Today the Express and Star firmly linked the Saddlers with the ex stockport and Boston hitman.

However Crewe remain the only club to put a firm bid in for the striker, a figure belived to be around 200k according to some sources. Considering Leeds paid 125k, this would be a nice profit for the Yorkshire club. It also puts doubt on the rumoured asking price. Either way Walsall don’t do transfer fees and have some rather difficult dealings with Leeds in the past, so for the Saddlers to stump up the fee would be a change of policy to say the least. Another stumbling block, and one which could have stopped the Crewe bid in it’s tracks….that is wages not many clubs at this level can compete with Leeds in the financial level. With two years left on his contract the move will have to make financial sense as well as football sense, especially as he is willing to stay at Leeds to fight for his place.

For these reasons I cannot see the 26year old becoming one of Walsall’s men in black when we visit Elland road next season.
