With the figures running between 79 and 61% it is clear that fans would like to see saddlers fans behind both ends of the goals.

With the possibility of vastly reduced numbers of away fans expected at the Bescot this season. It seems that the majority of Walsall fans would like to see these small band of faithful fans in the end block of the family stand, a stratagy which has been used when the two for a tenner days have been run, also when the floors to go stand was been built.

The driving thought behind this poll result seems to be different for different folks. Some would like it to be used as a pay on the day area to capture the floating fan who may come back after been disenchanted over the past two seasons. Also there has been a call for a singing stand where fans can sit together and create a hostile atmosphere. By allowing a sit anywhere policy (we would not sell out for any of the games under this idea) this could be incorporated also.

Some other views have suggested that we need to use this capacity to attract younger fans we have links with teams in Warley and Bloxwich why can’t we get the youngster in and turn them into the saddlers faithful of the future. Schemes have been tried in the past and it was felt tickets fell into the hands of those who would have come anyway hence just cutting club revenue. Well from a personal view point I feel turnstile income will be at its lowest for some time so any long term benifit would out way any short term loss, nothing ventured nothing gained.

In short the club has acknowledged an effort to increase communication with the fans and need to attract new fans to the Bescot as well as welcomming back those we have lost due events on the pitch. Relegation is a blow but it has also given the club the opportunity to lateral think about such radical ideas, the question remains is the club brave enough to be an innovator rather than a follower.
