Walsall have today signed former Aston Villa, Doncaster and Derby defender James O’Connor on a one year deal following his release from Derby.

O’Connor was a former FA Youth Cup winner with Aston Villa before moving to Bournemouth and then moved later to Doncaster Rovers for £130,000 where he established himself under the stewardship of Sean O’Driscoll and now Walsall assistant Richard O’Kelly.

During his time he won promotion from League One and was named player of the year.

Derby brought O’Connor for an undisclosed fee in 2012 however he was transfer listed last year before moving on loan to Bristol City for three games last season.

He was released by Derby County at the end of last season.

We welcome James to the club and wish him all the success with The Saddlers
