Walsall have won the race to sign Forest Green striker Jamille Matt acccording to reputable sports journalist Alan Nixon.

Jamille Matt was wanted by both Tranmere and Walsall after both clubs matched his transfer fee however growing up in Walsall and playing for Michael Flynn at Newport, the Saddlers had more pulling power.

Matt topped the League 2 goal scoring charts last season, scoring nineteen goals for Forest Green as they won the League 2 title.

He has a wealth of League Two experience and was awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Season for League Two and was selected in the PFA’s League Two Team of the Year last season.

If the deal is concluded within the next twenty four hours then Matt will be available for selection against Tranmere on Saturday.

It remains whether to be seen if the Saddlers will also pursuit the signing of current leading goalscorer Danny Johnson whose loan deal ends on Saturday.
