Walsall’s big debate

In the forum one of the threads which has been causing interest is one on the Bescot Pitch started by Sad Scouse. I have put together some of the main points of the debate, you can read and leave you views or have alok at the actual thread itself by clicking the various links at the bottom.

The pitch was there for the nation to see on the live Sky game against Grimsby. Everyone was in agreement that it was a difficult surface to play on. Despite the centre of the pitch having been drilled to improve drainage over the excessive wet winter we have had the pitch continued to cut up.

In that game we were fortunate to be playing a team which we intent on playing a passing game. The result both teams got equally stuck in the mud. In this case our superior skill and finishing combined with the Grimsby short comings sent the points to Walsall. However on saturday we are facing what is most likely to be the normal league two fare for the remaining games this season. A team that will battle 100% they will put 10 men behind the ball, and more than likely miss out the sticky middle part of the pitch by humping big long balls to a big striker. So far this season this hasn’t presented a problem, but now the pitch could play straight into there hands. As we are bogged down in the centre we will watch the points going up north over our heads.

We are not alone in this problems, Birmingham City have relaid there pitch, the difference between us and them is the style of play we will come up against in these winter months….we have created an uneven playing field in more than one sense and it isn’t in our favour.

To be fair the club have tried to rest the pitch by cancelling or moving reserve games. Also by looking at the use of the pitch by Aston Villa…the money is nice but I would rather have promotion.

Some have argued our need for a creative midfield player, but at the moment they would be as bogged down as anyone. What we need is pace an flair on the flanks.

These are the main points from the forum debate on this topic.
