Darryl Westlake and Dean Smith admitted today that Walsall didn`t play well enough and were disappointing at Plymouth.

Saddlers succumbed to a poor display at Home Park and fully deserved their 2-0 defeat.

Westlake told the official site: “‘We never got started at Plymouth?. ‘Our heads dropped after their first goal went in and we just couldn’t get back into it.”

Smith added: “‘It’s not a performance that I have come to expect from my players. We knew that Plymouth would be on the front-foot and we didn’t deal with it well enough.”

However, Walsall do not have long to turn their performance around as they entertain Brentford tomorrow at home.

Westlake set the ambitious challenge to make the changes needed, as the end of the season crunch time looms. He added: “The League table is so tight that it will change a lot over these next few weeks. We have to make sure that we bounce back the right way in front of our own fans against Brentford.’

‘There is quality within this squad and I have every faith in them.’ Smith concluded.

It is a rare admission this season for players and management to face their downfall head on like this, as on many occasions the real issues seem to have been swept under the carpet. “We will watch the DVD and learn from it”, anyone?!

We can only hope and pray for a better game tomorrow, Walsall is indeed much better than Saturday`s performance.

Up The Saddlers!
