Outgoing Walsall defender Chris Westwood gave a parting shot to both the club and fans, stating his loyaltly was never in question, as reported in today’s the Express and Star.
The 30-year-old has been at the heart of confusion over the past two days, along with Saddlers player of the season Dean Keates, as to whether they had both signed three-year deals with League Two side Peterborough United.
‘Westy,’ as fans have affectionatly called him last season, claimed that he had spoken to Peterborough because Walsall had shown no intention of offering the former Wolves defender a new contract.
However, Saddlers Boss DD has released a statement on the clubs website, which emphasised that the club were only going to offer players contracts once the title had been decided.
He said on the official site: ‘Given the outcome, the wisdom of the decision has become apparent. Unfortunately both players (Dean Keates and Chris Westwood) have taken it upon themselves to speak to Peterborough United on several occasions.
‘Therefore we thank them for their efforts for Walsall Football Club and wish them all the best in League Two next season.’
Therefore, we can confirm that Keates and Westwood have departed the club.
