Walsall boss Jon Whitney feels that his squad are getting there and getting stronger as the games pass by as he watched his new look squad beat league leaders Bolton with ten men – following Joe Edwards dismissal after sixteen minutes.

Whitney has continued to ask his players to play with attacking intent along with passion and desire to succeed and despite the Saddlers poor start to the season, Whitney believes they are finally getting there.

Speaking to Express and Star, Whitney said

“They are young players but they are getting stronger and stronger every week,” the boss said. “We are a technical team and it`s difficult for young players when we give them four or five options instead of just telling them to hit it long.

“We want to play high-tempo, attacking football with passion and desire. But it takes time to build.

“But you can see they are getting there. Nobody beats themselves up more than my players after we`ve lost or after they`ve made a mistake.
