After what has been a pretty uncertain couple of days since the defeat to Solihull Moors, Jon Whitney’s side faced Aston Villa in the 2nd instalment of the Saddlers’ pre-season schedule.

Walsall lined up with probably it’s strongest eleven, maybe James O’Connor would feature on another day, and Aston Villa also fielded a strong side with former England captain John Terry, partnering the towering Christopher Samba at the back.

The Saddlers enjoyed long spells of possession and pressure in both halves, with Bakayoko spurring the best chance of the game mid-way through the first half. And, Manager Jon Whitney has been speaking to the Official Walsall FC website
‘We`re happy to take a really solid performance.

“The most pleasing thing for me and my staff was seeing some of the stuff we worked on yesterday coming into fruition today.

“It was just a pre-season game, but it was still nice to see and the fitness levels are where we want them to be at this stage.

“We`ve still got over two weeks to go to fine-tune a few things.”

The Saddlers continue their pre-season schedule with a fixture away to Stafford Rangers tomorrow night, which will most likely feature a development team, and then a trip to Chester on Saturday.
