Walsall boss Jon Whitney has today thanked for the fans for remaining positive and waiting until the end of the game to show their frustrations.

Recently Saddlers fans have made their feelings known during the ninety minutes which Jon Whitney said had a negative impact on the side however the fans waited until full time to chant for the former physio to depart as manager.

Speaking to Express and Star Whitney said

“I thought the fans were really good,’ he added.

‘Respect to them, they created an atmosphere for the players. And it`s up to us – we`ve got to lift the fans, as players.

‘That first half we didn`t do enough to lift the fans. They were waiting for a spark from us and that spark didn`t come.

‘Second half we lifted them a bit but ran out of time in the end. But I can`t fault the fans.

‘All we ask is they express their frustrations at the end which they did. They pay their money and they`ve got every right to do that.’

The Saddlers are now in sixteenth place and sit six points off the play offs and four points off the drop zone.

Walsall travel to League 2 Newport County on Saturday hoping to avoid a FA cup upset.
