Youngster Will Grigg has vowed to plough his way into the first team, following a striker nightmare at the Banks’s.

The Saddlers are without striker Alex Nicholls, who is out for three matches after being red carded against Brighton, as well as Byfield, who is recovering from an Achilles problem.

This now makes way for the 19 year old to get his full senior debut tonight against Chesterfield in the JPT first round.  He looks set to partner new signing Jon Macken, 13 years his senior and in serious need of match fitness.

He has previously made three substitute appearances, and is ready to prove he is worth his salt.

The Northern Ireland international told the Express and Star: “I`m ready. I think I`m up to it. The times I`ve come on I`ve managed to get in the game and show I can do it.”

‘ I wasn’t expecting to come on so early in the season, and now I want more.’ He concluded

The local lad has certainly had a nudge in the team with his early showings. I hope that he comes into the side with a bang and makes himself welcome cover when the squad is looking thin.
