Walsall have today confirmed the signing of 27 year old Ashley Grimes on a one year deal following the decision to leave Bury by mutual consent yesterday.

Grimes started his footballing career at a trainee at Man Utd
before moving to Bolton and then Man City as a youngster.

In 2007 he gained first team experience by joining Swindon Town on loan where he played four games. In 2008, Grimes made a permanent switch to Millwall and scored twice in twenty one games before moving to Lincoln on loan in 2010. Grimes had the most prolific spell of his career whilst on loan with the Imps and scored fifteen goals in twenty five games which alerted Rochdale to his signature.

In two years with Rochdale, Grimes scored eighteen goals in sseventy two games but his final season was blighted by injury. He joined Bury at the start of last season but he was rumoured to have fallen out with Bury manager, David Flitcroft – which was a factor in him not finding the target in eighteen games for the Shakers.

Grimes has been prolific at many clubs however injuries have stalled his career.

Grimes scored 15 goals whilst on loan at Lincoln in 2010 and sealed a move to Rochdale where he continued his scoring record scoring 18 goals in 70 appearances.

He joined Bury following his injury blighted stint at Rochdale but failed to hit the back of the net in 18 games last season with the Shakers.

We welcome Ashley to The Banks’s Stadium and wish him the best of luck with the Saddlers!
