Sky Sports have confirmed this morning that Brentford have made an official approach to speak to Walsall boss Dean Smith.
Dean Smith was seen as the front runner to replace caretaker boss Lee Carsley and now an official approach has been made it will test Walsall’s resolve.
Smith has been in charge of Walsall since January 2011 and steered the club away from certain relegation in his first season with the club twelve points adrift of safety when he arrived.
His next few seasons saw the Saddlers flirt with the League 1 play-offs without rarely making the cut however this season, the Saddlers have started off in fine form and find themselves fourth – just three points behind leaders Coventry with a game in hand.
We hope that Smith will stay with the club and finish his project – but can we compete with a side like Brentford? Honest answer no.
The next few days will be pivotal to our season…..
