Broadhursts plea to fans

Manager Kevan Broadhurst has called on Walsall supporters to stick with the team despite some discontent at his appointment.

Broadhurst has drawn both of his games in charge at Bescot with the club currently lying joint third bottom of League One.

Broadhurst said: ‘I understand some fans who probably wanted a David Platt or someone like that – a name – in charge.

‘But time will tell whether I can get Walsall out of trouble and I believe I can. The fans here have generally been good to me though.

‘They want a winning team and they don’t want to go down so for 12 games I’m asking them to get behind the players and play their part in the club surviving.’

However it is my view that the recent sounds comming out of Bescot are begining to turn the doubters into supporters of the Broadhurst regime. The fact that organisation and discipline have started to be reintroduced to the team is a major bonus. It is an area which Paul Merson recieved a fare amount of fan abuse. The fact he has the players backing and they have agreed to extra training to help get the club out of the mess they are partially responsible for, is another bonus. A number of fans have also been impressed with the proffessional approach to dealing with the press.

More positives than negatives, whilst any manager will ultimately live or die on the results they produce.At the moment Walsall backs Kevan Broadhurst. It is a sad twist of fate that Saturdays posponement means Kevan will now have two more away games before his Bescot bow. Walsall have now only played 3 home league games this year, the run of five consectutive away games cost Merson his job. However after draws at Colchester and Southend trips to Swansea and Tranmere doesn’t seem like automatic defeats. This is a sign of the progress already made.

After these two away games seven of our last ten games are at home…..fan power could be a major part in our survival.
