Former Newport County manager Mike Flynn is currently in the top five of the betting to become Walsall head coach following the sacking of Matt Taylor today and is the standout favourite amongst Walsall fans.

Flynn has the experience of a relegation battle and four & a half years of League 2 management under his belt. Also worked with Labadie before and actually got a tune out of him. Surely you offer it to him first. But we don't do the obvious thing at Walsall, do we?

Flynn has been without a club since leaving Newport County in October 2021. Flynn was initially appointed Newport manager in March 2017 with the club eleven points adrift at the bottom of the League 2 table. He managed to pull of the great escape and built Newport into a top 7 League 2 outfit. Flynn also guided Newport to some major cup shocks (cup runs what are those?) as they defeated Leicester, Watford and Middlesbrough.
Also in the betting is current interim boss Neil McDonald, current Kidderminster boss Russ Penn and former Wigan and Portsmouth manager Paul Cook – although Cook is widely tipped to go back to his old club Chesterfield.
