There it is. After seven successive defeats Walsall have sacked Head Coach Matt Taylor after just nine months in charge. Matt leaves the club with the Saddlers just four points clear of the drop zone to the National League.
Assistant manager Neil McDonald and Mat Sadler will take temporary charge and Jamie Fullarton is already in the process of finding our eighth manager in the past seven years.
Walsall fans took to our Twitter account to give us their reactions to the announcement.
Sad because I can tell he cared and didn’t get backing however he had to go after 8 games without a win

Won't solve anything. Understand he had to be, but he was dealt an awful hand by Fullerton, who gets away with awful recruitment. He's the main problem

Feel sorry for MT. First job in management and yes he had his faults but was majorly thrown under the bus by Fullerton.
LP and JF we won’t let you use him as a scapegoat. We all know the issues at this club are a lot higher up than Matt. @VitalWalsall https://t.co/sHHgllnxFz

Simply not fair and those players had best look in the mirror!

Bit gutted tbh genuinely think he will be a good manager somewhere but I think we had to do something god knows who we go get now tho

Last roll of the dice to avoid the National League. It doesn't fix the deeper problems at the club.

It's not the biggest culprit for this, but the technician will always pay for the mistakes of others.

Should be Fullerton gone really. Sacking Matt ain't solving the issue
— Chris (@dr_dossier) February 9, 2022
Unsurprising given results but don’t think it solves the issues. Can’t see why McDonald is still there as MT bought him to the club and if MT is deemed not fit for purpose surely the same rule applies to him?

Right decision but problems are deeper and that hasn’t been resolved. JF choosing the new head coach doesn’t fill me with confidence and with the transfer window closed we’re stuck with this abysmal squad.

Something had to happen, but the quality of incomings has been shocking, which is down to Fullarton. Marquee signings such as Labadie, Wilkinson, Ward and Ash Taylor just haven't worked. Taylor very unlucky IMO. Feel Macdonald should have gone too
