Gordon Says Promotion Has To Be The Aim

|

Walsall striker Josh Gordon has today said the club should be challenging for promotion next season.

The Saddlers start their pre-season campaign at Alfreton tomorrow and Gordon believes he has seen enough in training to indicate the Saddlers have what it takes to return to League 1 at the first attempt.

Gordon looks set to be the Saddlers main striker this season following the departure of Andy Cook and he wants to return to League 1 after tasting it last season.

Gordon nicknamed Flash scored twelve goals in an inconsistent season where he was used as a winger and as a number ten playing off Cook, however, being the clubs main striker we believe he should be capable of getting twenty goals plus next term.

Speaking to the Express and Star, Gordon said

“From what I have seen from the manager and the new players, we really need to be at the top end of the table and challenging for promotion,”

“We need to be challenging for the automatic spots or the play-offs. As a club and as footballers, that is the overall aim that we need to focus on.”

“Having tasted that level of football, that is certainly where I want to be.”

“Hopefully we can make some history and get the club back to where we should be, that is in League One.”

Anyone wishing to travel to Alfreton tomorrow tickets are available on the day – adults £10, over 65’s – £5, Under 15’s – £2.
